About this 152mm 18 TPI metal blade
This pack holds five 152mm (6″) metal-cutting reciprocating saw blades, 20mm wide and 0.9mm thick, with an 18 TPI tooth pitch. If you only keep one metal blade in the van, 18 TPI is usually the one: it sits in the middle of the range, fine enough for medium-wall tube and coarse enough to make steady progress on light section.
Typical jobs for 18 TPI
- Plumbing and heating – copper, steel and plastic pipe in common sizes.
- Electrical work – steel conduit, trunking and slotted strut channel.
- Light fabrication – box section, angle and flat bar of medium thickness.
The 152mm length gives enough reach for most pipe diameters found around the house and workshop. For very thin sheet, 24 TPI will give a cleaner edge; for thick solid bar, 14 TPI clears swarf faster.
Getting the most from the blade
Mark the cut, start slowly so the teeth bite without skating, then increase the speed. On tube, cut through one wall at a time rather than forcing the blade through both together. A drop of cutting fluid on steel helps keep the teeth cooler and sharper for longer.
How to check this is the right blade
Measure the blade end to end (152mm) and across the body (20mm). Count tooth tips over 25.4mm to confirm 18 TPI. Our which TPI do I need guide and metals TPI chart explain how to match pitch to wall thickness.
Frequently asked questions
Can 18 TPI cut aluminium?
Yes, for aluminium tube and extrusions of medium thickness it works well. On thick, soft aluminium a coarser pitch is less likely to clog.
How do I know the blade is blunt?
It takes noticeably longer to cut, needs more pressure and starts to run hot. Swap to a fresh blade from the pack.
