About this 152mm 24 TPI metal blade
Five 152mm (6″) reciprocating saw blades with a 20mm wide, 0.9mm thick body and a fine 24 TPI pitch for metal. 24 TPI is the finest pitch in our metal range, so more teeth are in contact with the work at once – exactly what thin material needs to cut cleanly instead of snagging.
Best uses for a fine 24 TPI blade
- Thin sheet steel and aluminium – panels, cladding and ducting.
- Thin-wall tube – electrical conduit, handrail tube and light framing.
- Metal trims and profiles – angle beads, track and other light-gauge sections.
Because the teeth are small, the gullets between them are shallow. On thick material they fill with swarf quickly and the cut slows down, so step down to 18 or 14 TPI for heavier sections.
Avoiding vibration on thin sheet
Thin sheet tends to chatter. Support it close to the line of cut, clamp it where possible, keep the saw shoe tight to the surface and use a moderate speed. A flexible 0.9mm blade can also be angled slightly to keep more teeth engaged.
How to check this is the right blade
Your blade should measure 152mm long and 20mm across. Fine pitches are hard to count by eye, so count over half an inch and double it. For more help, see which TPI do I need and our metals TPI chart.
Frequently asked questions
Why not use a fine blade for everything?
Fine teeth cut thick material slowly and can overheat. Match the pitch to the thickness for the best speed and blade life.
Will it cut wood?
It will, but very slowly and the teeth clog. Use a wood or hybrid blade for timber.
