What this blade is for
This 5 pack of Morse reciprocating saw blades is 229mm (9″) long, 25mm (1″) wide and 1.3mm thick, with a fine 18 TPI tooth pitch. They are listed for cutting metal.
With teeth about 1.4mm apart, 18 TPI keeps several teeth in contact with thin material at once. That makes it a good match for thin-wall tube, conduit, box section, light angle and sheet, where a coarser blade would catch or rip teeth out. On thicker solid bar the small gullets fill quickly, so a coarser pitch is usually faster there.
The wide 25mm body and 1.3mm thickness give a stiff, stable blade that resists flexing. That is useful when you want a neat, square end on tube or when cutting metal overhead or at awkward angles, where a thinner blade can wander. The 229mm length gives enough reach for most pipework and fabrication jobs.
Run the saw at a steady, moderate speed on metal: excessive speed creates heat and dulls fine teeth quickly.
How to check this is the right blade
Lay your old blade on a rule and check it is 229mm from tip to shank end, 25mm across its widest point and 1.3mm thick (a caliper is easiest). Then count the teeth across one inch: you should find 18 fine teeth. Counting fine teeth is easier with a magnifier or by marking an inch on the blade. Our how blades are measured and which TPI do I need guides explain the principles.
Frequently asked questions
Why choose 18 TPI rather than 14 TPI?
18 TPI has smaller, closer teeth, so it suits thinner walls and sheet and gives a smoother cut. 14 TPI cuts faster in thicker metal sections.
Can I use this blade on wood?
It is listed for metal. The fine teeth would clog in timber, so choose a wood or wood and metal blade from our reciprocating saw blade range instead.
