About this 2185mm 14/18 TPI bimetal blade
This is a bimetal bandsaw blade, 2185mm long and 12.7mm (1/2″) wide, with a 14/18 TPI variable pitch. The tooth spacing alternates between 14 and 18 teeth per inch, which smooths the cut and reduces chatter on thin walls. High-speed steel teeth on a flexible alloy steel back give the edge life and fatigue resistance bimetal blades are chosen for.
A fine variable pitch like this is ideal for tube, box section, thin angle, extrusions and other profiles in steel, stainless and aluminium, where a coarse blade would snag. With teeth about 1.4mm to 1.8mm apart, three teeth fit across roughly 4-6mm of material, so it handles light to medium walls well. For thick solid bar, a coarser pitch will cut faster and run cooler.
The 12.7mm width gives a straight, controlled cut. A 2185mm length is typical of mid-size workshop metal-cutting bandsaws, so it suits fabrication and maintenance shops; confirm the length on your machine before ordering.
How to check this is the right blade
Check your old blade is 2185mm long and 12.7mm wide. Count the teeth along a few inches – on this blade the spacing varies between about 14 and 18 teeth per inch. Our guides how are bandsaw blades measured and which TPI do I need explain both checks in more detail.
Frequently asked questions
Is 14/18 TPI good for cutting aluminium extrusion?
Yes, a fine variable pitch suits thin-walled extrusions. Use a cutting fluid or lubricant suited to aluminium to help stop chips sticking in the gullets.
Can I bundle-cut tube with this blade?
You can, as long as the tubes are clamped firmly so they cannot move. Bundles behave more like a thicker section, so ease the feed slightly.
