Bimetal bandsaw blades represent a significant advancement in cutting technology, providing unmatched performance and durability compared to traditional carbon blades. Composed of two distinct materials seamlessly welded together, bimetal blades revolutionise cutting applications across a range of industries.
At their core, bimetal blades are crafted with a combination of high-speed steel (HSS) and a supporting spring steel. This innovative construction imparts exceptional characteristics to the blade, making it highly desirable in industrial settings.
The primary material, high-speed steel, is renowned for its remarkable hardness and capability to maintain sharpness at elevated temperatures. This quality is particularly critical when cutting through tough and abrasive materials such as metal. Unlike carbon steel, which can dull over time, HSS ensures consistent cutting performance, enhancing efficiency.
Moreover, bimetal blades incorporate a supportive backbone made from spring steel or alloy steel. This element provides the necessary flexibility to endure the rigours of cutting operations without succumbing to fatigue or breakage. As a result, bimetal blades boast an extended service life, minimising downtime and maintenance costs related to blade replacements.
The seamless fusion of high-speed steel and supportive steel alloys in bimetal blades results in numerous advantages that elevate their superiority over carbon bandsaw blades. Their exceptional durability and longevity contribute to enhanced cutting precision and efficiency, enabling operators to tackle demanding cutting tasks.
Bimetal blades display improved resistance to wear, heat, and deformation, guaranteeing reliable performance even under the most challenging operating conditions. Whether employed in metal fabrication, woodworking, or other industrial applications, bimetal bandsaw blades are indispensable for achieving precise cuts and optimising production processes.
In conclusion, bimetal bandsaw blades embody the pinnacle of cutting technology, offering unparalleled performance, durability, and versatility. Their innovative design and superior materials make them the preferred choice for professionals seeking optimal cutting solutions that deliver outstanding results.

About this 1647mm 4 TPI bimetal blade

This is a bimetal bandsaw blade, 1647mm long, 12.7mm (1/2″) wide, with a coarse 4 TPI pitch. Its high-speed steel teeth are welded to a tough, flexible alloy steel back, giving long edge life in demanding cuts.

At 4 TPI the teeth are over 6mm apart, with large gullets that carry away a lot of material on every pass. That makes it suited to thick work: solid bar and heavy sections, and deep cuts in hardwood and softwood where a finer blade would clog. To keep three teeth in the cut you need around 19mm of material, so this is not a blade for tube, sheet or thin angle – the teeth would straddle the wall and could snag or strip.

A 12.7mm width gives a good balance of straight-line stiffness and the ability to cut gentle curves. A length of 1647mm is typical of smaller and mid-size workshop bandsaws; confirm the length your machine takes before ordering.

How to check this is the right blade

Measure your old blade or check the machine plate: this blade is listed at 1647mm long (the web address for this page says 1638mm, so please check the Length shown above against your machine before ordering) and 12.7mm wide. Count the teeth over one inch (25mm) – you should find 4. Our guides how are bandsaw blades measured and which TPI do I need explain both checks in more detail.

Frequently asked questions

Is a 4 TPI bimetal blade good for resawing timber?

A coarse pitch clears sawdust well in deep timber cuts, and bimetal teeth stay sharp for a long time. If you only cut wood, a carbon blade is a cheaper alternative to consider.

Can I cut steel tube with this blade?

Not well. The thin wall of a tube would only meet one tooth at a time. Choose a fine or variable pitch bimetal blade for tube and keep this one for thick, solid material.
