About this 3455mm x 6.3mm 4 TPI carbon blade
A coarse-pitch carbon bandsaw blade, 3455mm long by 6.3mm (1/4″) wide, with 4 teeth per inch, built for quick cutting in thick wood.
With the teeth over 6mm apart, the deep gullets carry away a lot of sawdust on each pass. The blade works best in timber from about 19mm thick upwards - thick hardwood and softwood, logs and green wood for turning blanks, and chunky shaped parts. In thin sheet it would catch, so choose a finer pitch for that.
Pairing a coarse pitch with a narrow 1/4″ band is useful for cutting curves in thick stock, such as bowl blanks, cabriole legs or rounded components, where a wide blade could not turn. Expect a rougher finish than a fine blade - that is the trade-off for speed.
The 3455mm length fits larger floor-standing bandsaws; check your machine before ordering. Carbon steel is the economical choice for this kind of wood cutting.
How to check this is the right blade
Check that your machine’s plate, manual or old blade says 3455mm, measure the band at 6.3mm (1/4″) across from tooth tip to back edge, and count 4 teeth in one inch. Our guides to how bandsaw blades are measured and which TPI you need walk you through it.
What is a 4 TPI bandsaw blade used for?
Fast cutting in thick timber, where the large gullets stop sawdust packing the cut. It is not suited to thin boards or sheet, where too few teeth are in contact.
Why is the cut finish rough with 4 TPI?
Each tooth takes a bigger bite, so the surface is coarser. If finish matters more than speed, step up to 6 or 10 TPI.
